A parliamentary session grew heated when an MP swore during the debate on the Clean Air Bill. The Vice Speaker cut his microphone mid-speech, after which the MP apologized and withdrew the profanity.
At 17:00 on 2 Sep 2026, the House of Representatives convened with Ms. Mallika Chirapanwanich, Vice Speaker of the House, presiding. They were reviewing the Clean Air Management Act draft, which the Senate had amended and returned for reconsideration. After only three MPs had spoken—Mr. Phasin Pitutecha from Rayong, Democrat Party; Ms. Pimpatra Wichaikul from Nakhon Si Thammarat, Bhumjaithai Party; and Mr. Phattharaphong Lilaphat from Chiang Mai, Prachachon Party—all of whom supported the bill and disagreed with the Senate’s amendments, the consensus emerged to form a joint special committee from both houses to thoroughly review the bill.
Towards the end of his speech, Mr. Phattharaphong expressed disagreement with the Senate’s report, which clearly indicated who the current senators serve and whose interests they represent. He said it was unacceptable to allow a law, stripped of key provisions by unelected individuals, to address public issues. During this, Ms. Mallika cut off his microphone, preventing him from continuing, which prompted Mr. Phattharaphong to retort immediately, “Is it going to be like this?” Shortly after, an unidentified MP interjected with the words, “Damn, this is so disgusting.” This caused Ms. Mallika to immediately reprimand, “Please speak into the microphone. Your language is inappropriate. Withdraw your comment about it being disgusting.” She then abruptly ended the session.
Later, Mr. Nattawut Buapratum, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party, urged the meeting to continue. Ms. Mallika responded that members must take responsibility for using inappropriate language and that all must share accountability when such incidents occur. She added that saying “disgusting” over the microphone was truly unacceptable. Then Mr. Phattharaphong said, “I apologize. To allow the meeting to proceed, I would like to withdraw my statement.” Following this, Ms. Mallika resumed the session.
