The Child Affairs Committee received a letter from a man in Lamphun requesting an investigation into the facts after his wife died following childbirth. He raised concerns about the care procedures before and during delivery and asked relevant agencies to expedite support for the family.
At 09:30 on 3 September 2026, at the press room on the first floor of the Parliament building, Ms. Phatsarin Ramwong, the second vice-chairperson of the Committee on Children, Youth, Women, the Elderly, Persons with Disabilities, Ethnic Groups, and Sexual Diversity, received a complaint letter from Mr. Manop Kiriphoodon, former Member of Parliament, and Mr. Chakrit Chatriyin Dee, the deceased’s husband. They requested a fact-finding investigation into the wife’s death following childbirth and urged relevant agencies and individuals to consider remedies for damages and long-term impacts on the family.
The wife of the complainant died due to circumstances during the care and childbirth process on 17 August 2026 at a hospital in Lamphun province. The family still has doubts about the care procedures before and during delivery and therefore submitted the matter to the committee, seeking a thorough fact-finding investigation by relevant agencies to ensure justice for the deceased and her family and to find ways to provide remedies for the loss.
Mr. Chatpeer Wannapirat, Member of Parliament for Lamphun from the People's Party, said that as a local MP, he has been following this case closely. He assigned his team to visit the area to hear the family's initial concerns. However, the family still has questions and feels they have not received clear explanations regarding diagnosis and care, which is why they brought the matter to the committee.
Mr. Manop Kiriphoodon stated that the hospital serves a large number of people, including local residents and ethnic groups. He believes the hospital's capacity should be upgraded in terms of medical personnel and equipment to be better prepared to serve the local and nearby communities efficiently. He requested the committee to coordinate with relevant agencies to protect the rights of the public.
Meanwhile, Ms. Phatsarin Ramwong expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, noting that the incident has widely affected the family and those involved emotionally. She emphasized that everyone should be safe when undergoing medical treatment, especially mothers and children who deserve quality and safe care. As a Member of Parliament, she views this issue as one that requires cooperation from all sectors to find solutions, since all citizens have the right to safe and quality care and a good quality of life. The committee will consider the matter, coordinate with relevant agencies, and follow up on fact-finding and remedies for the bereaved family to ensure justice and contribute to improving public health service quality.
