Chaiyachonok revealed that TH-AI Passport registrations have reached 1.3 million but are still below the target. Efforts are ongoing to resolve internet connectivity issues and reduce inequality. Regarding the AI usage controversy, he clarified that the platform does not develop its own AI model but integrates Pro-level systems from private companies to offer free access to the public, including SeaDance, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Kimi.
3 Sep 2026 GMT+7 Chaiyachonok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society addressed recent criticisms and debates concerning the use of AI on the TH AI platform where some users reported that AI responses were inaccurate or did not meet expectations compared to external systems.
Chaiyachonok confirmed that the TH AI platform did not develop or create its own AI model, as surpassing global giants like OpenAI, Microsoft, or Gemini is currently very challenging. Instead, the project adopts leading private-sector models such as SeaDance, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Kimi in their Pro versions, making them freely available to Thai citizens.
Regarding users feeling the system’s answers were less satisfactory than their previous AI, this is because prior AI systems retained chat histories and adapted to individual user behavior over time as personal assistants. On the new platform, the system starts fresh like a blank slate. Users can improve results by providing links to their previous chat histories and verifying they are using the Pro model, since the default is currently set to the free version. The team is working to set the default to the highest-level Pro model promptly.
. The current number of registrants is approximately 1.3 million, short of the 1.4 million goal, and there has been a slowdown in registrations.
When asked how to verify the authenticity of registration numbers and prevent fake entries, Chaiyachonok assured that the project uses a Token-based system for billing, allowing transparent verification at every step, eliminating fake numbers. A public Dashboard is being developed for open monitoring.
He also stated that the main obstacle to registration growth is internet costs. Most users remain in urban areas, while students and teachers in rural provinces still lack access. Efforts are underway to collaborate on affordable or free internet promotions for AI use. Coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation is ongoing to promote the platform nationwide in educational institutions.
Before the interview, reporters tested the TH-AI Passport system by asking Assistant Minister Nan Boonthida Somchai to have the AI search for an image of the current 32nd Prime Minister. The AI instead retrieved a photo of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. When asked if this indicated system errors, Nan explained the system is under improvement, noting that the Pro AI programs offer higher accuracy than the free versions currently available.
