Atthawit is using the Finance Committee mechanism to demand evidence of steel inspection and construction related to the OAG building collapse after the OAG reported that more than a year has passed without receiving any evidence.
On 3 September 2026, the Finance, Treasury, Financial Institutions, and Financial Market Committee invited the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to provide explanations and submit evidence regarding steel inspections and the construction of the OAG building that collapsed on 28 March 2025.
Mr. Atthawit Suwanpakdee, as Vice Chairman of the committee, revealed that the committee received test results for various types of steel used in the collapsed OAG building from TISI, which found some IF-type rebar to be substandard. He urged OAG to proceed with inspections and claims for damages, and to pursue insurance compensation from the contractor’s insurer, as OAG and affected parties are entitled to compensation. The Director-General of DDPM also took responsibility to follow up on technical evaluations of structural design and construction to assist OAG in damage claims. He emphasized that these crucial documents had not been in OAG’s possession for over a year. As a member of parliament, he affirmed his commitment to ensuring that public funds are justly recovered.
