Abhisit Criticizes Parliament Speaker for Delaying Southern Insurgency Motion and Avoiding Election Commission Agenda

Abhisit urged the parliament speaker to organize the legislative consideration order after submitting a written motion to resolve the southern insurgency, which has yet to be scheduled. Similarly, the Election Commission agenda was postponed, citing it was not urgent and replaced by other motions.

On 3 September 2022 GMT+7, Abhisit Vejjajiva, a party-list MP from the Democrat Party, rose to address the House of Representatives about confusion over meeting agenda procedures and urgent motions. He stated that as the motion proposer on the three southern border provinces' issues submitted last week, he fully recognizes the urgency but questioned the parliament's practice. Previously, the parliament gave importance to agenda reports, such as last week's report from the Office of the Auditor General. Therefore, citing the Election Commission's report as not urgent to postpone it in favor of other motions is abnormal.

Abhisit discussed and presented two main demands to the parliament speaker:

1. He inquired about the status of his written motion and the criteria for agenda inclusion. Abhisit pointed out he had submitted a written motion on southern border issues due to its importance, but it had not been scheduled. Meanwhile, the speaker was willing to accept orally presented motions during the session. He sought clarity on how other members' pre-submitted motions would have the opportunity to be considered.

2. Regarding the Election Commission report and government leadership involvement, Abhisit suggested not using the condition “if finished on time” as an obstacle since the Election Commission report requires only acknowledgment without a vote. If unfinished, it could continue the following week. He emphasized that solving southern border problems requires the Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister to personally provide explanations because it is beyond ministerial level and demands clear policy from government leaders.

Abhisit called on the parliament speaker to clearly establish the order of consideration steps to prevent further conflicts over postponing or not postponing motions during sessions.
