"Pirongrong" urgently sent a letter to the NBTC Secretary demanding the remaining NBTC board members hold a meeting after the Supreme Administrative Court confirmed the chairman’s removal is effective from that ruling.
On 4 September 2026, Professor Emeritus Dr. Pirongrong Ramsut, a board member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), sent an "urgent" memorandum to the NBTC Secretary requesting the NBTC Office to promptly organize a meeting and facilitate the remaining NBTC board members to ensure the organization can continue its duties. This follows news about the Supreme Administrative Court’s Order No. 952/2569 (dated 31 August 2026) in the case between Mr. Sorn Boonbaichaiyapruk (plaintiff) and the NBTC Selection Committee (defendant), where the Supreme Administrative Court reversed the Central Administrative Court’s decision to accept the case for consideration.
Professor Emeritus Dr. Pirongrong stated that the Supreme Administrative Court confirmed the defendant’s ruling (No. 1/2569) concerning the legal disqualification that caused the plaintiff to lose the position of NBTC chairman is final and binding from the date of notification, 22 July 2026. The remaining board members can perform duties in his place. The Supreme Administrative Court order clearly states that Mr. Sorn cannot continue as NBTC chairman. However, under Section 20, Paragraph 3 of the Frequency Allocation Organization Act, the remaining board members (no fewer than four) may continue their duties to prevent disruption of public services in radio, television, and telecommunications. Since there is currently no court judgment or temporary protection order, the ruling remains effective, meaning Mr. Sorn has been unable to act as NBTC chairman since 22 July 2026.
Therefore, it is requested that the NBTC Office perform administrative duties according to the law by urgently organizing a meeting for the remaining NBTC board members on Friday, 4 September 2026, or within the following week on a mutually convenient date. This is to resolve the backlog of meeting agendas pending for over a month due to the inability to convene a lawful meeting, and to urgently safeguard the public interest.
It was reported that today the NBTC did not include any meeting agenda according to the proposal of Professor Emeritus Dr. Pirongrong in the daily schedule of activities and agendas.
