Prime Minister Rejects Idea of Appointing Deputy Finance Minister to Assist Ekniti, Cites Competent Ministerial Assistants

Prime Minister Anutin dismissed the idea of appointing a Deputy Minister of Finance to assist Ekniti, noting that Ekniti is still performing well and has ministerial assistants who are knowledgeable and professionally qualified.

4 Sep 2026 GMT+7 Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Chanvirakul spoke regarding the case where Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, expressed a desire to have a Deputy Minister of Finance to assist with his work. He said that currently Ekniti is still performing well without any problems. Although he has no Deputy Minister, he does have ministerial assistants. Both Ekniti and Supachai Suthumphun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, have knowledgeable and professionally competent ministerial assistants.

When asked whether any future Deputy Minister appointments should be party members, outsiders, or left to Ekniti’s decision, Anutin said it depends on the situation.
