“Rome” Criticizes “Mallika” for Unprofessionalism, Urges Ending Use of Brother-Sister Terms in Parliament

Rangsiman Rome sharply criticized Mallika Jirapwanich, Deputy Speaker of the House, for unprofessional conduct, stating that Parliament is neither a dining table nor a travel trip. He called for urgent self-improvement and demanded an end to referring to each other as brother and sister to preserve the House of Representatives' image,

At 11:20 a.m. on 4 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Rangsiman Rome, a party-list Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, spoke at the Parliament about the heated disputes and verbal clashes with Ms. Mallika Jirapwanich, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, saying the issue reflects a failure to uphold whip agreements, undermining mutual trust and credibility. He affirmed that the opposition does not neglect the importance of problems in the southern border provinces but questioned whether the government is genuinely committed to solving them or merely using the issue as an excuse to delay consideration of the Election Commission's report on alleged collusion in Senate selection.

Mr. Rangsiman further criticized Ms. Mallika's conduct in her role, calling for improved professionalism, ending the use of seniority systems or referring to each other as brother and sister within the parliamentary space, such as calling party leaders and opposition heads by nicknames or using pronouns as if conversing at a dining table. He also criticized the unequal meeting management standards between government and opposition parties.

“This kind of unprofessional conduct is something the Deputy Speaker should improve. This Parliament is not a sightseeing trip or a dining table. We are discussing important matters and vast public interests. Everyone should perform their duties equally and straightforwardly according to their roles.”

Additionally, Mr. Rangsiman emphasized that the cultural practice of politeness or kinship in Thai society should be separated from parliamentary duties to prevent corruption and seniority gaps. He hopes the Deputy Speaker will change her behavior so the House of Representatives does not lose credibility or become a place lacking seriousness in addressing national issues.
