The government is advancing the regulation of ride-hailing drivers through apps, expediting facilitation, and advising drivers to verify their qualifications and obtain proper public transport driving licenses by 30 September 2026.
On 5 September 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Sangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is moving forward to enhance ride-hailing services via applications to ensure the public receives convenient, safe, and quality services. Emphasis is placed on drivers meeting standards and possessing valid public transport driving licenses by 30 September 2026 to guarantee safety in every journey and build user confidence.
Ms. Ploytale said that to expedite all ride-hailing drivers obtaining public transport licenses within the specified timeframe, the Department of Land Transport has opened space at Building 4 to facilitate Bolt app members in registration and qualification checks. This follows Bolt temporarily suspending services to update data to comply with legal requirements, resulting in a high number of registrations. For those found without the required license, the Department of Land Transport is fully prepared to support the issuance of public transport driving licenses.
For applicants who have completed online training viahttps://www.dlt-elearning.comThey should save the QR Code of their training results as evidence, then bring the documents in person to apply (Walk-in) at the transport office to undergo physical fitness tests and theory exams, along with a criminal background check. Once the background check is cleared, applicants proceed to pay fees, have their photo taken, and receive their public transport driving license.
“The government, through the Department of Land Transport of the Ministry of Transport, will strictly enforce compliance with laws governing public transport services via applications. This includes monitoring incidents or violations, handling complaints, and coordinating with app service providers to enable prompt verification and action, prioritizing the interests and safety of the public,” Ms. Ploytale said.
