Supachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, revealed that negotiations on U.S. taxes are going well, confident that clarity will be achieved within a week, and believes the outcome will follow the original deal. She said that if finalized, she is ready to connect Anutin directly with Trump immediately.
At 09:55 on 8 September 2026 at the Parliament, Ms. Supachai Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, gave an interview on the progress of U.S. tax negotiations. She said the talks have gone very well, with all major points concluded. They are now awaiting final details concerning wording and language, which are expected to be completed soon.
She expressed gratitude to all agencies, both government and private sectors, for working together as Team Thailand, enabling a successful conclusion to the negotiations. She said this matter follows direct policy guidance from the Prime Minister, who set the negotiation direction, and she does not expect any problems as all key issues have been resolved.
When asked when the talks with U.S. trade representatives might conclude, Supachai said there should be nothing left since the key points have been settled. Only details remain, and she expects completion within one week. Then, the details will be presented to the U.S. trade delegation to forward to the U.S. President.
Asked again if clarity would be reached this month, Supachai said there is no problem or concern, and she expects a normal conclusion. When asked about export figures, she said if finalized, exports should proceed normally, with target tax figures following the agreement reached during the previous government.
Supachai further revealed that once the negotiation steps are finalized, arrangements will be made for Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also Minister of Interior, to speak with U.S. President Donald Trump.
