Jorayut revealed he visited the site with Yannawa District Councilor to monitor mysterious oil flooding a drainage pipe, suspected to be gasoline, posing safety risks. He urged the public to cautiously observe any abnormalities around them.
On 8 September 2026, Jorayut Jaturapornprasert, Bangkok MP from the People’s Party, provided an update on the discovery of unidentified oil in a drainage pipe near Chuea Phloeng Road and the Chuea Phloeng Pattana community in Yannawa District. This raised concerns over safety and fire hazards in the community. He said that after the Department of Drainage and Yannawa District Office opened the manhole earlier on 7 September to investigate the smell, they found the oil. Later that evening, he and his team, along with Yannawa District Councilor Phattharasak Maipranet, inspected the site together with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, the Pollution Control Department, and fire and rescue officials.
Initial investigations suggest the oil is likely gasoline, with some pits containing dangerously high oil levels. Authorities promptly cordoned off the area to address the situation urgently. Firefighters sprayed foam into the pipes to prevent ignition and gathered the oil into a single location.
Additionally, Shell Thailand provided equipment to assist in extracting the oil from the pipes. Although significant oil removal was achieved on the night of 7 September, heavy rain interrupted operations around midnight. Nevertheless, officials completed the oil extraction by the morning of 8 September and continue to closely monitor for any further oil leaks.
Jorayut concluded that investigations into the oil’s origin are ongoing. He called on the public to act as vigilant observers and report any leads or unusual activity immediately to him or the relevant authorities for prompt inspection.
“While awaiting clarity on the source, I urge residents of the Chuea Phloeng Pattana community and nearby areas to exercise extra caution regarding the use of fire or sparks, and to remain alert to any abnormalities. If suspicious incidents are detected, please report to officials immediately to ensure everyone’s safety,” Jorayut said. Jorayut said.
