“Phiphat” discussed solutions to pollution after oil stains were found leaking into drainage pipes at several locations, including an oil leak from a data center that affected local residents.
At 09:30 on 9 September 2026 at the Government House, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, chaired the 1/2026 meeting of the Water Pollution Management Committee concerning oil and chemical substances.
Mr. Phiphat emphasized in the meeting that this was the first water pollution management meeting in a considerable time. On 9 September, he received reports of oil leaking into drainage pipes and requested the secretariat to explain the causes so that participants could exchange information effectively.
On 8 September, oil contamination was found in drainage pipes near Chuea Phloeng Road, under the Rama 3 elevated bridge at the boundary between Khlong Toei and Yannawa districts. Officials have since pumped out over 22,000 liters of oil.
Previously, there was also an incident of oil leaking from a data center in the Rama 9 area, where contaminated sediment was found, impacting residents in the nearby community.
