The Acting Prime Minister affirmed that evacuation is not yet necessary following the oil spill at Rama 3, stating the situation is under control and ordering 24-hour monitoring.
On 9 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, serving as Acting Prime Minister, visited the fuel road and under the Rama 3 elevated bridge at the boundary of Khlong Toei and Yan Nawa districts to follow up on the oil contamination in the drainage pipes. He instructed all agencies to urgently address the root cause to prevent recurrence.
Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Saengchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, together with the Ministry of Energy, Pollution Control Department, and private sector, have deployed oil-absorbing booms and pumped out over 22,000 liters of contaminated water for proper treatment. The oil residue has now decreased to a thin film with reduced odor. The affected operational area is expected to be closed for about 2–3 days to inspect the leak points.
Regarding safety, officials are continuously monitoring flammable vapor (LEL) levels 24 hours a day and have prepared firefighting systems for emergencies. The latest assessment confirms there is no need to evacuate residents. Bangkok has established a joint command center led by the Director of Khlong Toei district as incident commander, working with private oil companies to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
