On 10 September 2026, Second Lieutenant Phattharatharusmi Thongsaluaykrorn, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) issued Order No. 120/2569 enforcing safety measures and modifying the teaching methods at Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok (Uthenthawai campus) and Pathumwan Institute of Technology. This order took immediate effect from 9 September 2026 onward to protect the welfare of students, the public, and tourists, while concretely addressing the prolonged issue of violence.
The order mandates a 90-day suspension of academic activities at the Uthenthawai campus and Pathumwan Institute of Technology to reorganize and enhance safety. If preparations for new premises are incomplete, the period may be extended until readiness is achieved. During this time, both institutions must adjust their teaching formats and management appropriately to support students’ education while maintaining educational quality, standards, and student rights in full.
The Deputy Spokesperson further detailed institution-specific measures: Uthenthawai is tasked with arranging and preparing new facilities for the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture within 90 days to facilitate a concrete campus relocation. Meanwhile, Pathumwan Institute of Technology must develop a long-term transition plan concerning space management to support systematic administration in the future. Both institutions are required to report progress to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation every 30 days to ensure policy implementation proceeds as planned.
This urgent order followed an incident on the morning of 7 September when groups of students assaulted each other with weapons at BTS Siam station, resulting in two injuries and causing significant public concern. Additionally, the Uthenthawai area remains subject to a territorial dispute involving the return of land to Chulalongkorn University. Consequently, the government is committed to resolving this situation decisively by enforcing laws and clear timelines to restore safety to society alongside ensuring the continuation of education for students at both institutions.
