Dr. Ekaphop, the newly appointed government spokesperson, chose the auspicious time of 9:09 a.m. to pay respects to the sacred entities at Government House before commencing his duties. He emphasized that assembly is a right, expressed willingness to listen to differing opinions, and cautioned against using the public as tools in political movements, encouraging everyone to move forward together.
At 9:09 a.m. on 10 Sep 2026 at Government House, Dr. Ekaphop Piansap, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, paid respects at the spirit houses of the land guardian and ancestral spirits, as well as other sacred entities of Government House, to seek auspiciousness before starting his official duties. Dr. Ekaphop said in an interview that this marks his official start as spokesperson at the Office of the Prime Minister. He expressed pleasure in meeting the media and public and asked for their support in his work. Referring to the Prime Minister’s words, he noted that orders given today must have been ready yesterday, as there is no time to stop, and that he has already prepared work plans in advance.
When asked about former People’s Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul’s call for movements to reclaim Thailand, Dr. Ekaphop said that assembly is a constitutional right and legitimate if conducted sincerely. He and his spokesperson team are committed to listening to frustrations, discomforts, and misunderstandings, inviting people to share information and dialogue. He said they are willing to act on issues raised and pass messages to the proper authorities. Regarding political movements with specific political aims, he urged the public to consider all sides carefully, warning that political maneuvers may use citizens as instruments. He advised the public to assess what benefits or gains each activity provides them.
“In past political movements, the public has often been used as tools, sacrificing by participating in protests, leading to deaths, injuries, prosecutions, and some still imprisoned. I believe those involved in politics must be more aware that the people have sacrificed enough. If political actors can communicate within the system, in parliament, through orderly and regulated channels, it would be best for the nation. Our country faces greater threats from global uncertainties such as war, trade conflicts, and disasters. I want to invite everyone to help continuously drive Thailand forward,” Dr. Ekaphop said.
