"DE" partners with "PDPC - Thai Post" to enhance personal data protection against scammers, promoting the D/ID measure that uses QR Codes instead of traditional address labels on parcels to strengthen security.
On 10 Sep 2026 at the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), Mr. Chaichanak Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, chaired a cooperation integration meeting to protect citizens' personal data, together with the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) led by Pol.Col. Surapong Plengkam, Secretary-General of PDPC, and Thai Post Company Limited (THP) represented by Dr. Danan Supatpan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of THP, aiming to elevate national digital data security.
Mr. Chaichanak revealed that the government prioritizes personal data protection as a national agenda. One key cause of data leaks leading to scams is the use of name and address labels on parcel shipments. Statistics from the Royal Thai Police from Jan to Aug 2026 show over 700,000 online crime reports, with more than 70% related to fraudulent buying and selling. Therefore, DE assigned PDPC and THP to develop the Digital Post ID (D/ID) system to address this issue.
The D/ID system will replace traditional parcel labeling with name, address, and phone number by using a 6-digit code combined with a QR Code to conceal personal data according to PDPA standards. Currently, THP has begun internal trials involving over 24,000 employees and plans to promote public trials in the next phase.
Additionally, Mr. Chaichanak has instructed THP to integrate the Address ID database with the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior, and the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, to develop the country's digital infrastructure standards. He also emphasized that THP and PDPC must implement top-level data security systems and actively seek feedback from all sectors to improve services that are convenient, secure, and not burdensome to the public.
