"Benz Racing" joined the Senate Human Rights Subcommittee to support enhancing the quality of life for inmates and recommended separating detainees awaiting trial from convicted prisoners.
On 10 Sep 2026 GMT+7, the Senate Subcommittee on Human Rights, Rights, and Liberties under the Senate Committee on Political Development, Public Participation, Human Rights, Rights, Liberties, and Consumer Protection convened to hear issues occurring inside prisons from former inmates and civil society organizations, inviting them to participate in the meeting.
This meeting focused on studying the development of quality of life management standards for inmates within Thai prisons. Representatives of former inmates and civil society organizations were invited to exchange views. Key topics included assessing current living conditions in prisons, examining human rights issues under the Department of Corrections' administration, and proposing policy directions from the civil society perspective.
The Senate Human Rights Subcommittee meeting included Senators Suntorn Pruksapipat, Thewarit Maneechai, Pornchai Witalertpan, among others, as well as Akkarit Worrojaroendej (Benz Racing), Sirapop Poomphungputh, representatives from the Correctional Hospital Department of the Ministry of Justice, the Lawyers' Rights Center, the International Federation for Human Rights, Amnesty International Thailand, and Freedom Bridge. Polrak Raksa-pon, a Senate expert and former Ministry of Justice working group member, also attended.
Akkarit Worrojaroendej (Benz Racing) supported the Department of Corrections' pilot policy at Bangkok Remand Prison that aligns with separating detainees awaiting trial, establishing a center specifically for segregating detainees awaiting trial from convicted prisoners. He also urged all correctional facilities nationwide to facilitate detainees' access to legal documents needed for their court defense.
