On 11 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul commented on the online buzz about his past wearing of the “Nuea Duang” amulet, following the arrest of the former abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan for sexual misconduct and money laundering. He stated that sacred objects remain effective for those who believe in goodness. The blessing of such objects is performed by a panel of revered monks, not just a single monk. He emphasized that sacred items serve to repel evil, and if one acts with a sincere and good heart, evil cannot take hold within them.
Regarding concerns linking the case to money laundering, Anutin said that based on the financial trail information, the Anti-Money Laundering Office and the Royal Thai Police must closely coordinate their efforts. The case involves embezzlement and fraud, which are clearly illegal. As for expanding investigations to other temples receiving large donations, ongoing audits are expected to continue.
