Supachai Chairs Meeting on English Edition of the Tipitaka

Supachai chairs the meeting on producing the English edition of the Tipitaka, establishing three subcommittees to drive progress and advance the global dissemination of Buddhism.

On 11 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mrs. Supachai Suthamphan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Patron Committee for the English Tipitaka Project, chaired the first 2026 meeting with the clergy and related committees. The meeting reviewed progress and set directions to drive the project forward in honor of and as a royal merit-making dedication to His Majesty the King.

Mrs. Supachai revealed that the project aims to translate and produce 45 volumes of the English Tipitaka (21,941 pages) through cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the Supreme Sangha Council, and the National Office of Buddhism. Currently, Phra Phrombundit chairs the subcommittee for translation and review, having completed drafts for three volumes from the three categories: Mahavibhangga, First Section (Vinaya Pitaka); Digha Nikaya, Silakhandhavakga (Sutta Pitaka); and Dhammasangani Pokkharana (Abhidhamma Pitaka).

Looking ahead, the project will expedite translation, editing, physical book production, and e-book search functions to align with the digital age. The meeting also approved appointing three subcommittees—production, translation, and editorial—comprising experts and specialists to work systematically to promote Thailand's Buddhist heritage to the global community.
