On 12 September 2026, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan posted on Facebook regarding the Election Commission's planned review of the Senate vote-rigging case on 14 September. She stated not to let 14 September be merely a day of catching small fish but that it is the day that will decide the fate of Thailand's system of checks and balances.
Khunying Sudarat called on all Thais to "keep their eyes on" all seven EC members because their upcoming decision is not just about who rigged the Senate vote or who will become a senator, but whether the country's system of checks and balances will be destroyed. "Will those in power in this country be held accountable?" she asked. "If those under scrutiny are the ones selecting their own inspectors, how can Thais place their hope in the country's oversight system?"
When those in power cheat, abuse their authority, or favor allies under an oversight mechanism they control, cheaters will not fear scrutiny. This will only encourage more corruption to flourish. When corruption spreads, the cost is borne not by politicians or officials, but by the entire population.
A clear example now is the multi-billion-baht local exam cheating scandal, where only minor offenders have been caught while the powerful beneficiaries of billions remain free. Likewise, the masked oil hoarding scandal, which defrauded the public of over 50 billion baht, still has not seen those in power who turned oil into cash for themselves being held accountable.
We must not surrender to the "corrupt powers" that dominate Thailand, greedily exploit the people, and destroy the justice system, leading to the collapse of moral governance within Thai public service.
Khunying Sudarat said that 14 September will be the test of whether the EC will choose righteousness and fairness by strictly adhering to the law or protect "corrupt benefactors." She reminded that misusing power unethically will have consequences for the decision-makers themselves in the future. Today, they decide, but one day they may be judged. At that time, neither the powerful nor benefactors will be able to help when "karma" and "justice" take their course.
