Sophon donates four houses to assist the poor and disabled as a royal tribute, while advancing solutions to the 'low birth rate and poor quality' issue.
On 13 September 2026, Mr. Sophon Sarum, President of the Parliament and Speaker of the House of Representatives, accompanied by Mr. Sak Sarum, Member of Parliament for Buriram from the Bhumjaithai Party, visited Buriram Province to preside over the ceremony handing over four houses to disabled and impoverished individuals in Nong Hong and Lam Plai Mat districts under the royal commemoration project for His Majesty the King's birthday on 28 July 2026, offered as a royal tribute.
This house handover is a collaboration among the King Prajadhipok's Institute, the Anantapon Sarum Foundation (Luk Teng), government agencies, local authorities, and communities to provide secure and safe housing, improve quality of life, reduce family burdens, and create environments conducive to quality child-rearing. It concretely addresses the social issue of 'low birth rate and poor quality,' recognizing that housing is a fundamental foundation for human development, alongside projects promoting childbirth and nurturing environments for children.
Location 1: A house was given to Mrs. Noi Chueakaw, aged 60, living alone with no children in Sarathong Subdistrict, Nong Hong District, Buriram Province. The team also visited and made merit at St. Joseph’s Sai Trom Temple. Location 2: Mr. Pian Mansalai, aged 72, residing in Thai Samakkhi Subdistrict, Nong Hong District, lives with his wife and five school-age grandchildren. An additional 30,000 baht was provided to help demolish the old house and expand living space.
Location 3: A house was given to Mr. Sai Plengmuenwai, aged 61, in Nong Don Subdistrict, Lam Plai Mat District, to provide secure, safe housing and improve his quality of life. Location 4: Mr. Liam Ura, aged 72, in Lam Plai Mat Subdistrict, is an elderly bedridden patient with mobility disabilities, living with one family member and relying mainly on old-age and disability allowances.
Mr. Sophon said that assisting citizens is not merely about addressing immediate problems but requires tangible improvements in quality of life, especially by ensuring family stability, which is linked to solving the 'low birth rate and poor quality' challenge. Concurrently, a project to promote childbirth is underway to foster an environment supportive of family formation and quality child-rearing.
“The four houses handed over today are not just ‘new homes’ but foundational guarantees enabling families to stabilize and move forward. They reduce the burden of caring for the elderly and disabled and create appropriate environments for children and youth, aligning with the goal of developing ‘quality people’ from the family level,” Mr. Sophon said.
The project aims to build and deliver a total of 22 houses to disabled and impoverished people, relying on cooperation from all sectors to transform concern into tangible assistance and collectively perform good deeds as a royal tribute, demonstrating gratitude for His Majesty’s benevolence on the auspicious occasion of the King’s birthday on 28 July 2026.
