"Je-Set" visited the site to follow up on the fire inside the Chalermprakiet Building at Ban Phaeo, ordering the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and Public Works to urgently inspect the structure before reopening, while praising the swift evacuation plan.
At 19:00 on 13 Sep 2026, Mr. Je-Set Thai-Set, Deputy Minister of Interior (MoI3), rushed to Ban Phaeo Hospital in Samut Sakhon Province to monitor the fire incident inside the Chalermprakiet Building, which broke out around 18:00 today. The fire occurred in the physical therapy department on the building's first floor.
After receiving the report, relevant agencies including the Samut Sakhon Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, local administrative organizations in the area and nearby, along with firefighters and volunteer emergency responders, quickly mobilized to contain the fire. The hospital also promptly evacuated affected individuals from the area.
As supervisor of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, MoI3 ordered both agencies to urgently support the hospital’s safety management. The DDPM was assigned to assist with disaster prevention and suppression, risk assessment, and monitoring for recurrence, while Public Works prepared to inspect the building’s structural stability to evaluate safety before reoccupation.
The fire has now been fully controlled with 100% containment. There were no fatalities; only minor injuries from smoke inhalation. Currently, efforts are underway to ventilate residual smoke inside the building and conduct a detailed safety assessment of the area.
MoI3 said the most important aspect of this incident is preventing loss of life. He praised firefighters, volunteer responders, and local defense volunteers who quickly accessed the scene and suppressed the fire, as well as hospital personnel who were ready to evacuate and promptly moved affected people out, resulting in no serious injuries or deaths.
"The key point today is that there were no fatalities or serious injuries. I commend the firefighters, volunteer responders, and hospital staff for their quick and systematic response. The initial minutes are crucial for the safety of patients and the public," MoI3 stated.
Regarding next steps, MoI3 revealed that tomorrow the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning will inspect the building structure to assess stability and safety before considering reopening. Meanwhile, the Pollution Control Department has been coordinated to measure air quality and pollution levels from lingering smoke inside the hospital to ensure the area is safe for patients, staff, and the public.
For the investigation into the fire’s cause, forensic officers will enter the site tomorrow to collect evidence and conduct a detailed examination before concluding the facts.
MoI3 emphasized that after the fire is controlled, the critical mission is to ensure the area is safe in all aspects, including building structure, air quality, and prevention of recurrence. He has instructed relevant agencies to closely monitor the situation and fully support the hospital until normal operations resume.
"As supervisor of both the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, I have ordered these agencies to urgently support the hospital because safety must cover all dimensions — prevention and suppression of incidents, structural safety, and internal environmental conditions. Moving forward, we must ensure the building is safe, the air is safe, and the public is safe before returning to normal," MoI3 said.
