Governor Chatchat revealed that the oil residue in Khlong Toei's drainage pipes has not increased. Authorities are urgently investigating the source and affirm no connection to the data center. They are also intensifying checks on oil residues found in Bang Kapi district.
On 14 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Chatchat Sithipan, Governor of Bangkok, provided an update on the discovery of oil in the drainage pipes along Rama 3 Road in Khlong Toei district. Oil presence has been detected in the drains for about one week, with approximately 20,000 liters of water and oil mixture removed, of which around 20%, or 4,000 liters, was oil.
Initial inspections conducted jointly with the Ministry of Energy, Department of Energy Business, and the oil company involved detailed excavation and examination of two nearby 14-inch high-pressure oil pipelines. These pipelines have a flow rate of about 400,000 liters per hour. The company confirmed no leaks were found in the pipelines. However, at 04:30 this morning, oil residue was still observed seeping on the water surface. It is preliminarily believed that recent rainfall may have washed out old oil accumulated in underground cavities into the drainage system, though further investigation and verification are needed.
In subsequent operations, the volume of oil has not significantly increased, while officials continue to monitor vapor emissions closely. A meeting with related agencies is scheduled for this morning to analyze oil samples collected to identify the source and determine the true cause. Governor Chatchat stated that, at this stage, the incident is believed to be unrelated to the Data Center, as the locations are different.
Regarding reports of oil residue found in Bang Kapi district, Governor Chatchat said no official reports have been received yet but an urgent investigation will be conducted. He encouraged the public to report similar incidents via the Traffy Fondue platform so that officials can promptly inspect the situations.
