Pradorn Confirms 200 Billion Baht Loan Can Be Used to Extend Thai Chai Thai Plus Phase 2 Project

Pradorn said the loan decree does not prohibit using the second tranche of 200 billion baht to extend the Thai Chai Thai Plus Phase 2 project. He revealed that the Finance Ministry still has time to finalize the details.

Pradorn confirmed that the loan decree does not forbid using the second tranche of funds to continue the Thai Chai Thai Plus Phase 2 project.

On 14 Sep 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Pradorn Prissanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, spoke about the loan expenditure screening committee reviewing the proposed extension of the Thai Chai Thai Plus Phase 2 project. He said the Finance Ministry still has time to decide whether the current situation justifies proceeding. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Akniti Nitithanprapas and the economic team are also assessing the situation’s suitability. If deemed appropriate, the Finance Ministry will initiate the process by submitting the matter to the committee, and upon its approval, it will be presented to the Cabinet meeting.

Regarding whether the remaining 40-50 billion baht is sufficient or if funds can be reallocated from elsewhere, Pradorn said it depends on the Finance Ministry’s decision and model, determining how much to extend the project based on the number of beneficiaries, amount, and duration.

Reviewing remaining loan funds and evaluating their effectiveness in stimulating the economy.

When asked if the second tranche of 200 billion baht loan can be used for this project, Pradorn said the first 200 billion baht tranche is not yet fully used. Reporters pressed further on whether the second tranche could be used if the first is insufficient; Pradorn responded that the loan decree does not explicitly prohibit this.
