At 09:00 on 15 Sep 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapan spoke about the National Office of Buddhism's additional progress report on the case involving the former abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan. He said that this matter has been addressed in parliament. When asked about the audit of temple accounts, Pakorn stated that this has been continuously expedited.
Regarding rumors about a new temple case, Pakorn said he coordinated with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to identify which temples were involved, but there was nothing significant. The temple in the news, Wat Chulamani in Samut Songkhram Province, has been preliminarily examined and nothing was found; further information from the police is awaited.
"Let me tell you, accusing others violates their rights. If you don't have sufficient evidence, don't make accusations as it harms the reputation of Buddhism. Do not believe hearsay shared via LINE or social media. I ask journalists to help protect Buddhism and not to dramatize every issue. Every case depends on its facts. The authorities are handling it, so no need to worry or ask me—I honestly don't know," Pakorn said.
Pakorn said that prevention is necessary, and the best prevention is establishing systems. Since greed exists in people's hearts, it must be refined. What we can do is set up systems, and five have been planned, including temple accounts, monk registration, and temple registration. He stressed that these problems have existed for a long time and he is trying to act as quickly as possible. He urged people not to make accusations lightly and to respect others' rights.
