Profile of Somjet Limpapan, the sole Bhumjaithai Party MP prosecuted by the Election Commission for involvement in the Senate election collusion case.
On 15 Sep 2026 GMT+7, following the Election Commission's decision to prosecute 77 individuals related to the Senate election collusion case, Somjet Limpapan, MP for constituency 4 from the Bhumjaithai Party, was listed among 15 individuals. At the time of the incident, he had not yet been elected as an MP. The list also includes Supachai Phosoo, former minister from Bhumjaithai, Somkiat Liangprasit, father of Worasit, Deputy Minister of Interior, and Warin Chinwong, President of Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Administrative Organization, all members of Bhumjaithai.
Somjet Limpapan was born on 14 May 1968. He is heir to the influential Limpapan political family with a solid voter base in four northern districts of Sukhothai (Sawankhalok, Si Satchanalai, Thung Saliam, and Si Nakhon). His family's stronghold in Sawankhalok supports his long political career. He is the son of Somchat Limpapan, multiple-term mayor of Sawankhalok, and nephew of Prapas Limpapan, former Sukhothai MP and former Minister of Foreign Affairs. This heritage has enabled Somjet to maintain his political influence for many years.
Somjet has been affiliated with several political parties, including Thai Rak Thai, the Mutchima group with Somsak Thepsuthin, and Chart Pattana Puea Pandin, before joining Bhumjaithai. He has been elected as an MP since 2001, serving terms in 2001, 2005, 2007, 2019, and 2026. He is a key figure in Bhumjaithai, maintaining voter support in the four northern districts of Sukhothai despite strong challenges from Somsak Thepsuthin and the Pheu Thai Party, which had vowed to sweep all MPs in Sukhothai.
Besides serving as a five-term MP for Sukhothai, he has held political appointments including
former assistant secretary to the Minister of Public Health,
former assistant secretary to the Minister of Commerce,
former spokesperson for the University Affairs Department,
and former advisor to the Minister of Interior.
On 14 October 2025 GMT+7, he was appointed Secretary to the Minister of Interior (Anutin Charnvirakul at that time).
His personal slogan is: “Your troubles are my work — Somjet Limpapan.”
