On 16 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Peerapun Saleerutthiwakorn, leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, addressed the Election Commission’s decision to prosecute only 77 accused in the senator vote-rigging case. He said if facts and evidence show a coordinated wrongdoing, prosecution should cover all involved persons, not just select individuals. If tasks were divided and there was shared intent, responsibility should be assessed for the entire group’s actions. The EC’s key duty is to collect facts, witness testimonies, and credible evidence thoroughly before submitting the case to court as prescribed by law. The EC is not the final judge of guilt but must act within legal authority. If sufficient evidence indicates dishonest or unfair conduct, the case should be forwarded to court for a full hearing.
Peerapun further commented on concerns about witnesses reversing their statements, saying that a single witness’s recantation should not be the main reason to end or change the case’s direction if other witnesses and evidence remain. He noted that claims of intimidation must be verified—who allegedly intimidated and whether intimidation actually occurred. If it later emerges that the recantation was due to coercion, persuasion, or collusion to let someone evade responsibility, relevant authorities should investigate possible additional offenses. The witness involved should also face charges for making false statements to officials. The matter should not be judged based on one witness’s words alone but on the entire body of evidence, leaving the justice system to decide. If proof exists, actions should be taken straightforwardly without selective enforcement and applying the same standards to all sides.
