Siripong discussed with S-Traffic and MOLIT advancing Thailand-Korea transport cooperation, promoting public transport and integrated ticketing, and accelerating the signing of a transportation memorandum of understanding (MOU).
On 16 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Siripong Angkasakulkit, Deputy Minister of Transport, accompanied by Panya Chupanich, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Transport, Kiti Ekwallop, Assistant Governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, and his team, met with Mr. Lee Jae Hyun, CEO of S-Traffic Co., Ltd., in the Republic of Korea following participation in the GICC 2026 conference. S-Traffic, Korea’s leading company in IT and intelligent transport systems, presented smart technologies including Korea's Automatic Fare Collection system for rail transit, rail safety signaling, and Smart Tolling systems. Both sides exchanged experiences and perspectives on applying artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent transport systems (ITS) to enhance safety and convenience for the public, aligned with Thailand’s Ministry of Transport policy.
In the afternoon, Siripong and his delegation met with H.E. Mr. Kim Yong-Seog, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Commission (MTC), and Mr. Ahn Byung Kon, Director of International Business at Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of South Korea. Both parties agreed to expedite the signing of a transportation MOU between Thailand’s Ministry of Transport and MOLIT to advance initiatives under the MOU such as integrated ticketing, public transit, and transit-oriented development (TOD) around transport stations. They exchanged ideas on Korea’s highly successful Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Additionally, LH representatives expressed interest in jointly studying the feasibility of developing Bangkok port areas.
Siripong said the discussions with S-Traffic and MOLIT are valuable for applying Korean knowledge and experience to Thailand’s transport systems, especially transitioning the integrated ticketing system from limited use on certain rail lines to nationwide coverage across all transport modes, as in Seoul. He added he will coordinate to secure cabinet approval of the MOU draft before the South Korean president’s visit in November this year, to promote tangible cooperation under the MOU and strengthen Thailand-Korea transport relations.
