Thaksin Shinawatra has instructed his lawyer to file a lawsuit with the Tax Court after the Revenue Department pursued a duplicate seizure of assets amounting to 15 billion baht. The Central Tax Court has scheduled a hearing on the temporary protection request for 7 Oct 2026.
16 Sep 2026 GMT+7 Winyat Chatmontri, lawyer for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, addressed recent reports stating that currently the Revenue Department is seizing and freezing Thaksin Shinawatra's assets to settle tax debts arising from the 2006 sale of shares in Shin Corporation Public Company Limited, according to the Supreme Court's Tax Division judgment number 68902568 dated 14 Aug 2025, which affirmed the Revenue Department's tax assessment as correct.
Winyat stated that Thaksin neither intends to dispute nor disrespect the final judgment. The Supreme Court ruled that the tax assessment on Thaksin’s 2006 sale of Shin Corp shares to Temasek Holdings, amounting to 15,883,900,000 baht, constitutes taxable income for the 2006 tax year.
Thaksin's lawyer further explained, the income of 15,883,900,000 baht is part of the total proceeds from selling 1,419,490,150 Shin Corp shares, which Thaksin owned. These shares were ordered by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Officeholders in case number Am.1/2010 dated 26 Feb 2010 to be forfeited to the state, totaling 46,373,687,454.70 baht. Therefore, no remaining income or benefit from the Shin Corp sale is left for Thaksin to pay tax on for 2006.

Thus, the subsequent asset seizure and freezing by the Revenue Department constitutes a duplicate enforcement conflicting with the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division judgment for political officeholders. This case number Am.1/2010 is the reason for filing this lawsuit with the Central Tax Court. On 2 July 2026, the lawsuit was filed requesting the Central Tax Court to issue a temporary injunction preventing the Revenue Department from continuing the improper asset seizures until the court issues a final judgment.
Towards the end, Winyat revealed that earlier the Revenue Department announced efforts to trace assets and file for bankruptcy, he advised the Revenue Department to seek the claimed unpaid taxes from the Ministry of Finance rather than seizing or freezing Thaksin’s assets beyond the court-ordered liability. The Revenue Department should cease exercising authority that appears unlawful. The Central Tax Court has scheduled a hearing on Thaksin’s temporary protection request for 7 Oct 2026 and a case management and witness hearing for 16 Nov 2026.
