On 17 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said near the end of delivering policy to Ministry of Interior civil servants that he feels a heartfelt regret over some executives having to retire, such as the Director-General of the Department of Lands, the Director-General of the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and 13 provincial governors. He asked them to take pride in their service to the nation and people, their dedication and sacrifice, wished them happiness in retirement, and believed many will continue to have roles afterward. On behalf of the Ministry of Interior, he might ask for their help, using their knowledge to benefit the civil service.
The Prime Minister also said he wants the Inspectors General to report directly to him and that the belief that these positions are "storage" posts should end. Sometimes being in that position allows one to calm emotions and think about why they are there. They must focus on producing results. It's not that moving there means losing previous connections or that moving one way or another leads nowhere. Everyone has opportunities, and he demonstrated this himself because he does not carry grudges or anger anywhere. He is in a good mood every day. Sometimes when transfers or role changes happen, regardless of the reasons, he can explain everything. He encouraged everyone to ask him why certain decisions were made when the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior brought matters for discussion.
"I am truly ready to answer all questions, but you must also answer me. I emphasize that everyone has opportunities. Don't think that once placed, you stay forever. Rotation depends on performance. I constantly press the reset button. There are no secrets between me and the Permanent Secretary. I support all appropriate discussions. I encourage everyone to show their results and contribute wherever they are. Especially in the role of Inspector General, you have responsibilities across areas, unlike provincial governors who cover only one province, and you can use the Permanent Secretary's authority. I don't know who created the culture that this is a storage post. Look back at the Ministry of Public Health; everyone wants to be an Inspector General; otherwise, they cannot rise to director-general or permanent secretary. The Ministry of Interior also has permanent secretaries who were formerly Inspectors General," Anutin said.
Anutin concluded by saying that if anyone has any lingering concerns, he is ready, and it is a good thing to openly discuss them.
