Prime Minister Urges Swift Establishment of Ministry of Interior Forward Command to Quell Southern Unrest per NSC Resolution

Anutin urged the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior to quickly establish the Ministry's Forward Command to extinguish unrest in the south according to the National Security Council's resolution. He also praised the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) for its effective disaster response and emphasized transparency and the absence of favoritism.

On 17 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, chaired a meeting to monitor the Ministry of Interior's policy implementation. He revealed plans to address issues in the three southern border provinces, stating that the National Security Council (NSC) resolved to integrate work among administrative officials, military, police, and the Fourth Army Area Internal Security Operations Command. District chiefs were appointed as team leaders, and the Ministry of Interior was instructed to swiftly establish a 'Forward Command' to manage situations on-site promptly. The Permanent Secretary acknowledged this and is expediting adjustments to personnel numbers to match the situation, while the new Fourth Army Area Commander confirmed full readiness to cooperate.

Anutin praised the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and provincial governors in disaster-affected areas for their rapid response according to emergency plans. He urged them to enhance ongoing monitoring capabilities due to expected heavy rainfall continuing through December.

Additionally, the Prime Minister authorized the Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Minister of Interior to exercise his authority to issue immediate orders. He also stressed the importance of transparency in information at both government and Bangkok Metropolitan levels. He stated that over the past three years, the Ministry of Interior has had no issues of specification locking, favoritism, or benefits granted to contractors. He urged executives and state enterprise chairpersons under the ministry to establish straightforward work regulations and warned that any violations will be punished without exception.
