“Nikon” plans to revitalize “Thung Song Hong Community Housing” by developing condominiums next to the Red Line MRT, promoting the “Housing for Thai People” model to reduce the financial burden for people starting out.
On 17 September 2026, Nikon Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, visited the Thung Song Hong community housing project on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road, Don Mueang District. He encouraged elderly and vulnerable groups. Taweepong Wichaidit, Governor of the National Housing Authority (NHA), and executive officials welcomed the visit.
Nikon revealed that the NHA plans to restore the aging residential buildings to ensure safety and security while reassessing land use for maximum benefit. Since Thung Song Hong community housing is adjacent to the Red Line MRT station, it is ideal for young people and those starting work. The goal is to develop new high-rise buildings with commercial spaces, offices, parks, and exercise areas, aligning with the long-term lease model called “Housing for Thai People,” which aims to provide affordable quality housing to the public.
Taweepong Wichaidit, Governor of the NHA, stated that the Thung Song Hong community housing project spans over 29 rai and was established between 1979 and 1982, making it over 47 years old. It consists of nine five-story rental flat buildings totaling 1,369 units, which have deteriorated over time. The NHA has partnered with Silpakorn University to create a master plan for urban renewal. In 2027, they plan to submit the proposal to the NHA board and the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), alongside preparing an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, before presenting it to the Cabinet for consideration in 2028.
If implemented according to the Minister of Social Development and Human Security’s policy, the project will be upgraded to nine residential buildings with approximately 3,800 units, accommodating 1,327 current residents and over 2,400 new residents. It will include commercial buildings and 1,900 parking spaces to enhance quality of life across all ages and serve as a model for sustainable housing revitalization.
