Sihasak pointed out that the US House Foreign Affairs Committee's investigation into Warapak's connection to scammers is a personal matter and that there is no discomfort in explaining it to foreign countries.
At 08:15 on 18 Sep 2026 GMT+7, at the Government House, Mr. Sihasak Phuangkaetkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the US House Foreign Affairs Committee sending a letter to the US government requesting an investigation and consideration of sanctions against 28 individuals believed to be linked to a scammer network and human trafficking in Southeast Asia, including Mr. Warapak Thanyawong, former Deputy Finance Minister during the Anutin 1 government. He stated that this is an individual matter.
Regarding calls for the Thai government to take action on this issue, Sihasak said the government already prioritizes it. Online scammer operations are a key government policy. When asked if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs felt uncomfortable having to explain this matter internationally, Sihasak replied that there is no discomfort.
Sihasak reaffirmed Thailand's position: clearly delimit the border before discussing resource sharing.
Mr. Sihasak also commented on the outcomes of the compulsory conciliation commission meeting under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982 between Thailand and Cambodia. He said the results have already been reported to the Prime Minister, and everything is proceeding well. Thailand has expressed its stance regarding UNCLOS and compulsory conciliation. We must consider the overall relationship context—how we reached this point and the sincerity and seriousness in negotiations. To maintain relations, a sustainable resolution is necessary. For Thailand, a sustainable resolution means clearly defining the maritime boundary first.
When asked about Cambodia's position, Sihasak said Cambodia emphasizes boundary delimitation and wants it completed so they can proceed to benefit sharing and joint development. That is their stance. Thailand focuses on clearly delimiting the boundary first; joint development and resource sharing must come afterward, once the boundary is clearly defined.
Asked whether relations between Thailand and Cambodia have improved, Sihasak said if everything proceeds well with a conciliatory attitude, it may open the door for further dialogue.
Regarding Cambodia filling in Kuleat ditch near Hill 450, Sihasak said it is a positive sign. However, since this area is on land, Thailand does not want incidents that could cause conflict. Avoiding such incidents is beneficial.
