Governor Chadchart affirmed that the EV garbage truck project is proceeding transparently and asked not to be accused of corruption. He emphasized that the goal is to benefit the public and stated that until the project is approved, Bangkok must return to renting diesel-powered garbage trucks.
On 18 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Governor Chadchart Sitthiphan addressed the issue of the electric vehicle (EV) garbage truck project budget cut. He said most people agree that garbage trucks should eventually be replaced by EVs. However, since there are still questions about the details, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is ready to send officials to clarify the matter before the Bangkok Metropolitan Council according to procedure. He assured that this project involves no corruption whatsoever, emphasizing transparency with officials continuously monitoring. Nevertheless, since the project has not yet been approved, BMA must revert to the previous method of renting diesel garbage trucks for now.
“Since becoming BMA Governor, I have known that working with the Bangkok Metropolitan Council is necessary; we are not enemies. Our aim is to do what benefits the people most. But please do not accuse us of corruption because we do not engage in such behavior. We must work together for the people,” Chadchart said.
