Pichcharat, a Bhumjaithai Party MP, supports the draft law protecting victims of domestic violence, emphasizing the need to "make homes safe places."
18 Sep 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Pichcharat Laohapongchana, party-list MP of the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT). She revealed that during the House of Representatives meeting on 17 September to consider the draft Domestic Violence Protection Act B.E. ..., she emphasized the importance of the draft law as a key factor in addressing Thailand's population crisis.
"Today, Thailand is discussing the crisis of low birthrates. We often ask how to encourage the younger generation to start families and have more children, or how much financial support should be provided. But I believe before asking the public why they don't want children, we should ask ourselves whether Thailand has created a safe enough society for people to feel ready to build families and have children."
Ms. Pichcharat continued that this draft law will change the long-standing mindset in Thai society that views domestic violence as someone else’s family issue, moving toward a society that is alert, vigilant, and no longer indifferent to domestic violence. Regarding proactive measures, the law should not wait for victims to become strong enough to seek help but instead create a system that can reach them when they are still scared and confused.
She also suggested that the draft law must be more than just a paper tiger by preparing personnel, budgets, work standards, and effective coordination among police, local administration, medical staff, psychologists, and social workers, because rights on paper only matter when the people receive those rights in real life.
