The Prime Minister dismissed criticism of the Election Commission over the Senate vote-rigging case, affirming that the government is not involved and emphasizing the need to respect majority decisions based on democratic principles.
On 18 September 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as well as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, spoke about allegations of collusion in Senate member elections and criticism of the Election Commission's majority decision. He stated that, as head of government, he confirms the government has no involvement whatsoever in the Election Commission's decisions or prosecutions and thus has no further comment. Previously, as party leader, he clearly prohibited political officeholders within the party from interfering in the selection of Senate members, fulfilling his duty fully. Anyone violating this must take personal responsibility and defend themselves, as such actions are not on behalf of the party.
When asked about public criticism of the Election Commission's majority decision and the minority vote disclosures, the Prime Minister said everything must adhere to legal principles and democratic processes. He has seen all forms of decisions from independent bodies—unanimous, majority, split votes, or cases requiring repeated chairperson votes—but all must follow constitutional provisions. No law states that the minority must prevail. Therefore, whether it's the Election Commission, Cabinet, or any agency, when disagreements occur, they must be resolved by voting, and all must respect and comply with the outcome, just as he accepted minority decisions during Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's government despite differing views.
Regarding the reversal of testimonies that some say harmed Bhumjaithai Party's image, Anutin emphasized that it did not negatively affect the party but resulted from attempts by certain groups to involve the party. When asked how to end these allegations, the Prime Minister said those making accusations and those unconcerned already know each other. He concluded firmly that looking back, this issue is definitely a political game that has been ongoing for two years.
