Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department Orders Mobilization of Machinery to Clear Waterways and Remove Water Hyacinths and Obstructions

The Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department responded to Minister Suriya's directive by ordering irrigation offices nationwide to mobilize machinery to rapidly remove water hyacinths, increase water catchment areas, and ensure adequate water delivery for agricultural use.

On 18 Sep 2026, Wittaya Kaewmee, Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, announced that he has instructed all irrigation projects nationwide to deploy machinery and equipment to eliminate water hyacinths and waterway obstructions. This is combined with requesting cooperation from farmers and local water users to cut grass and weeds along irrigation canal embankments to increase water catchment capacity and enhance water delivery efficiency to meet demands for both consumption and agriculture. The department is also monitoring and assisting flood-affected areas in the northern region to restore normalcy and safety, following the concerns of Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
