Government Releases Survey Results on Unnumbered Houses: 490,000 Households to Support National Disaster Insurance System

The government revealed survey results on "unnumbered houses" to support the national disaster insurance system, identifying data on more than 490,000 households. Efforts are accelerating to compile this data to enable swift assistance and relief when disasters occur.

On 21 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Lakshamisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that following the Cabinet's approval to establish a "National Disaster Insurance System," they approved group residential insurance policies and group accident insurance policies to assist disaster victims. They also approved a budget framework of 15,500,000,000 baht for purchasing insurance for the public. Coverage includes three types of disasters: floods, storms, and earthquakes. The budget is divided into 15,000,000,000 baht for group residential insurance and 500,000,000 baht for group accident insurance to help disaster victims.

Ms. Ploytale said the government is rapidly surveying "unnumbered houses." According to data from the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior, as of 15 Sep 2026 GMT+7, 517,525 houses have been surveyed out of 29,812,688 houses nationwide, covering 76 provinces and Bangkok. They found 491,453 houses without official house numbers and 82,810 dwellings with actual residents. Additionally, 1,377 houses have been sold. This highlights the urgent need to create an accurate, up-to-date database so the government can identify "who lives where" and quickly reach citizens during disasters. This data is crucial for planning aid, especially for temporary residents or workers living in areas without registered house numbers.

The national disaster insurance covers damage from floods, storms, and earthquakes, with maximum coverage of 100,000 baht per household per incident under the policy conditions. For flood damage, initial compensation is 10,000 baht plus up to 90,000 baht per incident per household. For storm and earthquake damage, initial compensation is 5,000 baht plus up to 95,000 baht per incident per household. In case of death from any of the three disasters, coverage is up to 2,000,000 baht per person. The policy is effective from 1 Oct 2026 to 1 Oct 2027.
