Attawit proudly announced that the parliamentary session unanimously approved the Bankruptcy Bill, marking a success in reducing procedures for small debt rehabilitation and allowing bankrupt civil servants and employees to remain in government service.
At 11:18 a.m. on 23 September 2026 GMT+7. Attawit Suwanpakdee, party-list Member of the House of Representatives from the United Thai Nation Party. He revealed at the parliament that the small business rehabilitation law began in 2016, but over 10 years only 10 cases were filed in court, with 2 plans approved, and no one successfully completed the program. Therefore, he sought to change the law. He debated in the House to request support for his idea to eliminate creditor meetings, requiring only creditor consent from 50% of total debt, down from two-thirds, to simplify the process for small debtors. He also urged that bankrupt civil servants and employees should not be forced out of government service but remain employed and financially supported like private-sector workers.
Attawit further stated, The parliamentary session unanimously approved the proposed amendments in the Bankruptcy Bill with 444 votes, marking the first successful law for the United Thai Nation Party in the 27th House. Regarding the new debtor rehabilitation bankruptcy law, after parliamentary approval it will proceed for royal endorsement and signature before being published in the Government Gazette and coming into effect as stipulated by law.
