The Supreme Administrative Court has rejected Yingluck Shinawatra's petition for a retrial in the case requiring compensation for the 10-billion-baht rice-pledging corruption damages, stating no new evidence was presented to overturn the previous judgment. The appeal against this order was dismissed.
At 13:30 on 23 September 2026 GMT+7, the Supreme Administrative Court upheld the Central Administrative Court's decision to reject the request for a retrial filed by Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, and Mr. Anusorn Amornchat, her husband, who petitioned the administrative court for a retrial in the case where Yingluck and her husband sued the Prime Minister and nine others, seeking an order for the Ministry of Finance to hold Yingluck accountable to pay damages as Prime Minister and Chair of the National Rice Policy Committee for permitting corruption in the rice-pledging scheme, and for failing to prevent or halt the damage caused to the government as per her official duties, amounting to 10,028,861,880.83 baht, unlawfully.
The court reasoned that the Supreme Administrative Court exercised discretion in considering all evidence related to the damages from the state-to-state rice sales, which appeared in the case files at both the Central Administrative Court and Supreme Administrative Court levels, including documents submitted by the parties. The allegations essentially challenged the Supreme Administrative Court's discretion in its judgment or decision, rather than presenting new facts or evidence that could materially alter the established facts or demonstrate significant procedural errors affecting the case's fairness. Therefore, the petition did not meet the criteria for the court to reconsider or issue a new ruling. Yingluck's appeal against the order was dismissed.
