The Speaker of the House declared there is no need to worry about dismissal of a no-confidence debate motion if it follows the rules, after the opposition scheduled a debate on the Senate collusion issue. He hinted at a New Year 2027 initiative to help parliamentary officials reduce belly fat and lose weight for better health.
23 Sep 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the House of Representatives, said at the parliament regarding the opposition coalition's plan to submit a no-confidence debate motion later this September. Opposition MPs expressed concern that raising the Senate collusion case might lead to dismissal of the motion. He stated, “It will not be dismissed. It is the opposition's right to verify whether it complies with the rules. So, there is no need to worry. If it follows the rules and the constitution, it can proceed fully. The Speaker cannot do otherwise. It is the opposition’s discretion to perform their duties.”
Later, Mr. Sophon spoke about the Pan Waan Faa activity, which encourages people to create writings promoting democracy and compete for awards. He said he has not yet seen the winning entries but stressed the importance of genuine effort. He likened this to their goal of changing the parliament's image, starting with physical strength—the body and mind's resilience for work—which is tangible, while the intangible is another matter. He dislikes the phrase “playing politics,” preferring “doing politics” seriously. Regarding Pan Waan Faa, it must bring benefits, similar to his continuing project “Sujipuli,” as nowadays people dislike reading. He aims to promote reading because when people love reading, the Pan Waan Faa project will be beneficial. Personally, he enjoys reading internal martial arts genres.
Additionally, he shared good news that the Medical Department of the Secretariat of the House of Representatives has been tasked to develop the “Fit Together: Reduce Belly, Reduce World” project. On New Year 2027, they will hold a competition and present awards as gifts to parliamentary officials who successfully lose weight. Judging criteria include BMI checks, and those meeting the standards will receive prizes, with a surprise award for the best achiever.
