The Bhumjaithai Party MP for Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya clarified ongoing monitoring of the flooding issue, affirming no negligence and emphasizing efforts to promote both short- and long-term solutions. He disclosed plans to submit a parliamentary question to the government tomorrow.
At 18:10 on 23 September 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Pradit Sangchai, Member of Parliament (MP) for Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, along with fellow Bhumjaithai MPs from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, held a press conference at the parliament regarding interviews about the flood situation in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, stating that all Bhumjaithai MPs from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya are not negligent about the issue and have been continuously monitoring the situation. They further clarified that the affected areas are in Zone 5, including Phak Hai and Sena districts, and Zone 1, including Bang Ban district and some parts, but not the entire province.
Mr. Pradit went on to describe past efforts, saying the MPs have raised public distress from last year's major flooding to the government, which led to initial compensation payments of 9,000 baht and monthly aid of 5,000 baht. Since being elected to represent the province, they have continuously monitored and pushed for projects to prevent and mitigate flood impacts.
Ongoing projects include the nearly completed Chao Phraya 2 project and the floodgate between the Chao Phraya and Noi rivers, which, if finished on schedule, will significantly reduce local water volume. He also mentioned the Chainat-Pasak-Gulf of Thailand project, planned for fiscal year 2027, which the government is implementing as a key long-term flood solution for Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. He reiterated that Bhumjaithai has a disaster fund policy to provide insurance for every household nationwide starting 1 October 2026 as a measure to assist citizens affected by various disasters.
Currently, the Royal Irrigation Department has increased water discharge from about 490 cubic meters per second to approximately 1,750 cubic meters per second, causing water levels in some areas to rise by more than one meter within 2-3 days, impacting local residents. However, not all areas of the province are affected; on 17 September 2026, a field visit found no water accumulation in some places.
Based on monitoring data from the Royal Irrigation Department and related agencies, it was initially forecasted that this year's water situation would be less severe than last year. Nonetheless, rainfall and natural factors are unpredictable, which has led to the current flooding in some areas. Furthermore, tomorrow (24 September 2026), he plans to submit a parliamentary question to the government regarding the flood situation in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. He will raise residents' problems and hardships for discussion with the Prime Minister, including inquiries about current solutions and future flood prevention measures. .
