On 24 September 2026, Mr. Aekphop Pienpiset, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that on 23 September 2026 at 09:00 local time in New York City, which is 11 hours behind Thailand, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited Google's office at Pier 57 in New York, USA. He held discussions with Ms. Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google. The government is ready to collaborate with Google to establish environmentally friendly Data Center standards and engage in community development. Google is also prepared to open the Open Data Institute to develop quality workforce skills and provide opportunities for Thai people.
The Prime Minister thanked Google for its confidence and investment in Thailand through a $1 billion investment plan (about 36 billion baht) to develop a Data Center in Chonburi Province and a Google Cloud Region in Bangkok. He reaffirmed that the Thai government is ready to facilitate smooth implementation of these projects according to plan and aims to elevate long-term cooperation beyond infrastructure investment, particularly in AI collaboration, digital skills development, and driving Thailand's transition to a digital economy.
The spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister said that during the discussion, the Prime Minister emphasized key issues, especially promoting clean energy and sustainable Data Center standards. He noted that Data Centers are crucial infrastructure for the digital economy and AI. Therefore, the government prioritizes development alongside sustainability in energy efficiency, water management, and community care. The government is open to Google's knowledge, technology, and experience to jointly elevate environmentally friendly Data Center standards in Thailand.
The President and Chief Investment Officer said that Google has already invested in Thailand in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in Chonburi by building a Data Center that prioritizes environmentally friendly standards and benefits surrounding communities. Additionally, Google plans to open an Open Data Institute to promote and develop quality workforce skills, including digital skills, offering opportunities for Thai people and startups. Google also reaffirmed its commitment to being a long-term partner with Thailand.
