On 24 September 2026, reporters reported that on 23 September at 10:30 a.m. local New York time, which is 11 hours behind Thailand, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his wife and entourage, visited Wat Buddhathai Thavorn Vanaram. He spoke with Thai residents living in New York City and nearby areas in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
At the event, Phra Kru Withurathamprakat, abbot of Wat Buddhathai Thavorn Vanaram, welcomed the Prime Minister and his wife, who paid respect to the Emerald Buddha statue in the temple’s ubosot. Afterwards, the Prime Minister offered robes and Thai religious items, performed water pouring rituals, and received blessings for good fortune.
The Prime Minister greeted the Thai community, expressing his happiness to return to visit the community where he had lived 40 years ago. He met owners of restaurants where he once worked part-time to support his daily expenses. During his attendance at the 81st UN General Assembly, he met leaders from many countries, private sectors, and businesspeople who stood alongside national leaders. But when visiting the Thai community in New York today, he humbly felt as if meeting elder relatives, many of whom had cared for and shown kindness to him when he was a student studying in New York. That time taught him about the struggles of Thai people living in New York, which paved the way for his current success.
The Prime Minister also reassured Thais abroad that the situation in Thailand is improving both economically and in trade. The government has held discussions with leading U.S. private companies interested in increasing investment in Thailand, which will create jobs, opportunities for Thai people, and benefits returned to the public.
Toward the end, the Prime Minister told the Thai community in New York not to worry about Thailand. Currently, many long-standing problems are being addressed, including crackdowns on corruption, management of scam gangs, drug issues, and resolving issues with neighboring countries, which are now settled or in final negotiation stages.
