The government is pleased as Phuket province excels by winning first place as the Wellness destination favored by Canadian tourists, reinforcing Thailand’s status as a Global Health & Wellness Destination.
On 25 September 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Saengchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government is delighted Phuket received the highest votes from Canadian tourists at the Air Canada Vacations Toronto Product Launch held at Universal Event Space in Toronto, Canada. Phuket won the 2026 Travellers’ Top Picks Award in the Wellness category, underscoring Thailand’s potential as a health and wellness destination beloved by long-haul tourists.
Ms. Ploytale explained that the Travellers’ Top Picks Awards, now in its second year, invites Canadians to vote for their favorite destinations via the Travellers’ Top Picks website across 10 categories. This year, over 1.3 million votes were cast. Phuket secured first place in Wellness, reflecting Canadian tourists’ recognition of Thailand’s ability to offer diverse, high-quality health and wellness experiences. This achievement also emphasizes Thailand’s tourism promotion aligned with Value-led Tourism, focusing on creating meaningful travel experiences and sustainable growth rather than just increasing tourist volume. Currently, Canadians remain a key long-haul market for Thailand; between 1 January and 21 September 2026, 180,510 Canadian tourists visited Thailand, a 2.35% increase from the same period last year, ranking ninth among long-haul markets.
Ms. Ploytale added that this Wellness award serves as a significant boost to expanding the quality Canadian tourist base and advancing sustainable tourism value, experiences, and revenue.
The government and the Tourism Authority of Thailand will leverage this success to broaden comprehensive cooperation in Health & Wellness, aiming to concretely establish Thailand as a world-class health and wellness destination.
