Yotchanan joined Sakon Nakhon MPs to open the Bun Duean Sib festival in Akat Amnuai District, participating in worship of the Emerald Buddha and Tai Yoi drum dance before braving the rain to encourage youth at the To Be Number One center.
On 25 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Yotchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, visited Akat Amnuai District, Sakon Nakhon Province, to preside over the opening of the “Bun Duean Sib Festival, Longboat Races, Fireboat Floats, and Worship of the Local Emerald Buddha” for 2026. He was warmly welcomed by Patthana Sapso, Sakon Nakhon MP; Jiratchaya Sapso, Sakon Nakhon MP; Naruemon Sapso, Sakon Nakhon Provincial Administrative Organization President; community leaders; and local residents.
Upon arrival, Yotchanan paid respect to the Emerald Buddha at Wat Klang Phra Kaew, the sacred spiritual center of Akat Amnuai District (notably the site of a miraculous radiant glow from the Emerald Buddha in 1975). He then watched the “Yoi Drum Dance” performance, a Tai Yoi folk art reflecting their river-based way of life. The highlight was the longboat race competing for the royal trophy graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to those involved in regional development, including MP Patthana for budget advocacy, MP Jiratchaya for advancing the river bridge construction project, and former MP Sakuna Saranan who applied research to support the community. He warmly shared with residents that he had previously visited in January and pledged himself as a member of the Sakon Nakhon community. This return visit was to pay homage and he hoped to visit many more times.
He also invited the public to join in tourism activities to preserve local traditions while stimulating the economy, before officially opening the festival with a gong strike and enjoying the Tai Yoi communal dance with the locals.
After the opening ceremony, Yotchanan braved continuous rain to visit the To Be Number One youth center, encouraging young people and watching a cover dance competition. He emphasized that this project is a vital safeguard helping Thai children and youth stay away from drug problems. The entire event was warm and friendly throughout.
