On 25 Sep 2026, Arsit Sampantarat, Secretary of the Interior Ministry, stated that according to the Meteorological Department’s warning, heavy to very heavy rain is expected across Thailand between 25 and 27 Sep 2026, with many areas likely to experience heavy rainfall and accumulation.
“Currently, heavy rain has occurred, causing waterlogging, river overflow, and flash floods in some areas, affecting people’s daily lives and travel,” he said.
Arsit said he ordered all provincial governors to implement three urgent measures to prevent widespread impacts on citizens’ lives and property and to ensure rapid and effective management. These include: 1. "Elevate proactive flood monitoring and management" by closely tracking rainfall, water volume, water levels, and risk areas—especially lowlands, riversides, foothills, and historically flood-prone zones—while forecasting situations in advance and preparing personnel, machinery, equipment, evacuation points, and shelters to provide timely assistance. “The highest importance must be placed on safeguarding the safety of citizens’ lives and property first and foremost.”
2. Assign the "Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office" as the main responsible agency to integrate efforts with district chiefs and all sectors—including government agencies, local administrative organizations, foundations, volunteers, rescue units, and related agencies—to closely monitor the situation, maintain up-to-date data on risk and affected areas and water conditions, prepare response plans, alert systems, evacuation, and assistance measures, and mobilize disaster machinery and staff for immediate operations. If the situation is assessed as severe, they must promptly report to the provincial governor for decisions and rapid resource deployment.
3. Assign the "Provincial Public Relations Office" as the key mechanism for communication and raising public awareness by integrating data with the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and related agencies to ensure the public "receives factual situation updates," enabling them to act safely and prepare for potential incidents. The public is urged to follow official updates and heed local agency advice for safety.
“The National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command has stationed staff on standby to facilitate information provision and receive reports via the 24-hour hotline 1784,” said Arsit.
