On 26 Sep 2026, reporters reported that flooding in many areas of Bangkok continued to worsen. Recently, Chatchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok and director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center, signed an announcement expanding the disaster area in Bangkok from only covering Nong Chok, Suan Luang, and Khan Na Yao districts to encompassing all 50 districts of the capital.
Earlier, on 22 Sep 2026 at 21:00, the page T Lom Fha Akat posted a flood warning for several areas, stating, “There are 96 hours remaining from now.
It might occur a major flood event.” It warned of widespread flooding in the eastern region, including the basins of Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chanthaburi, Trat, Sa Kaeo, as well as Khao Yai, and flooding in the central plains across various river basins, canals, ponds, and fields, including Bangkok and its vicinity, with high risk of waterlogging in several districts, especially vulnerable areas prone to flooding due to expected heavy, continuous rain from the night of 24 to 27 September. The page urged people to prepare daily plans, allow extra travel time, monitor official warnings, prepare boats, charge batteries, stock essential items, drinking water, medicines, ID cards, and food. Residents in historically flood-prone areas were advised to move valuables to higher ground and get ready for this flood event. This warning was based on the latest ECMWF forecast model's rainfall accumulation analysis for the period but may still change, so stay updated!” “Whether you believe it or not is up to you; the intent is not to cause panic.” “The goal is to encourage vigilance and preparation for potentially unexpected situations.”
Reporters revisited the government’s interview on the matter. On 23 Sep 2026 at 09:25, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri spoke at the Government House about the page’s warning, saying the page is just news but, personally, he thinks the page owner lacks tools to provide accurate data. We have the Meteorological Department to issue disaster warnings and provide flood information. He acknowledged that there was an assessment forecasting heavy rain in northern, central, and northeastern regions from 24–26 September but not to the extent reported. He confirmed that all relevant agencies had prepared and implemented preventive measures. He viewed the situation as not worrisome based on the available data.
Deputy Prime Minister Songsak added that social media news should be critically examined. It is impossible to ban it, and he does not know who the reporters are. However, flood preparedness measures are already in place.
“Therefore, I am confident the news may be fake and causing undue alarm, though I acknowledge there is some rainfall in certain areas but not at that severe level. The government can handle it.”
Regarding water storage areas, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak said the Office of the National Water Resources has clarified the capacity of each reservoir to hold additional water. As he has been assigned by the Prime Minister to oversee this, he will focus on creating additional water retention areas such as flood detention basins. If Bangkok residents are concerned about the volume of water flowing through the Chao Phraya River, it remains within manageable limits and will not impact the public adversely.
