Former Democrat Party spokesperson Rames urges the government to work with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to jointly establish a water management center and proposes declaring a 3–4 day public holiday during severe flood crises to ease the situation in Bangkok.
On 26 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Rames Rattanacheewong, former Democrat Party MP, expressed concern over the expanding flood situation. He extended his sympathies and encouragement to citizens nationwide affected by the disaster and to all officials working across sectors. He also submitted recommendations to the government to accelerate management and aid efforts during this emergency, both in Bangkok and other provinces, aiming for swift, efficient, and unified action.
Mr. Rames proposed five urgent measures for immediate implementation by the government and BMA: closely integrate their work; establish clear coordination and command mechanisms between government and BMA to ensure aid efforts are aligned, reduce duplication, and respond promptly; set up a unified flood management center to centralize resource mobilization, command, and consistent public communication in Bangkok and nationwide; convene a special Cabinet meeting to set urgent measures; and strictly control the supply and distribution of essential consumer goods to prevent shortages and exploitative price hikes that worsen citizens’ hardships.
Regarding the fourth proposal, Mr. Rames suggested travel reduction measures: if flooding severely disrupts daily life, the government should consider declaring a temporary 3–4 day public holiday in Bangkok. He also requested private sector cooperation to adjust work patterns or temporarily suspend operations to reduce travel risks. Fifth, he urged rapid deployment of personnel to assist vulnerable groups across all areas by distributing food, drinking water, and medicines comprehensively.
Mr. Rames emphasized that the key to resolving the current flood crisis is unified action and command to deliver aid to the people as quickly as possible. Political matters or ministers’ opinions can be addressed later. At this time, those in power must dedicate their full efforts because citizens are desperately awaiting assistance. He also urged adopting this approach to rapidly handle flood situations in other provinces as well.
