On 26 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Thairath reporters reported that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Chanvirakul, while on duty in London, United Kingdom, held an urgent teleconference with relevant government agencies to closely monitor the flood situation and rainfall volume in Bangkok, its vicinity, and affected areas.
The teleconference included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas as the situation commander; Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaichanok Chidchob; Deputy Ministers of Interior Jesadakorn and Polpee; Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office Phardorn Prisanantakul; Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt; Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry; as well as directors and senior executives from the Meteorological Department, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Royal Irrigation Department, National Water Resources Office, governors of Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, and Nonthaburi provinces.
Meanwhile, from London, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaew and Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry Artsit Sampantharat also joined the meeting.
Anutin stated that he has been closely monitoring rainfall and water volumes throughout the night with deep concern for the people. He convened the urgent meeting to receive the latest updates and directly oversee coordinated efforts. He insisted that all agencies work efficiently in harmony to assist the public as much as possible. He emphasized especially that for Bangkok, the issue must not be seen solely as Governor Chadchart Sittipunt's responsibility but as a government-wide matter requiring all agencies to urgently resolve the hardships swiftly.
The key cause of the flooding is heavy rainfall exceeding drainage capacity, compounded by accumulated water and runoff from upstream areas. Anutin ordered water management to be handled as a unified system without fragmented work, using a single data set for decisions. He called on meteorological, water resources, disaster prevention, Bangkok authorities, provincial governors, transportation, security agencies, and the Royal Irrigation Department to coordinate continuously, especially in vulnerable areas and at-risk groups, to prepare food, clothing, relief bags, and establish shelters promptly.
Additionally, Anutin praised Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Ministry of Transport for opening government parking facilities free of charge for the public to park vehicles and avoid flood impacts. He further instructed the Ministry of Transport, Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), State Railway of Thailand, the Transport Company Limited, as well as Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports.
For citizens affected by flooding, he requested the situation commander and agency leaders to allocate parking space and strictly manage traffic assistance personnel.
At the meeting's conclusion, Anutin emphasized summarizing the overall operation clearly, including monitoring areas, agency responsibilities, readiness of equipment, machinery, water pumps, and personnel. He urged prompt coordination to dispatch necessary resources immediately to assist affected citizens if additional government support is needed.
